What is STEP and how hard is it?

I'm looking at studying some type of math at University and keep hearing aboutneeding to do STEP exams to get an offer. Would appreciate advice on how to prepair and how hard it is.

STEP is an admissions exam set by Cambridge university for its mathematics courses. It is taken around ones A Levels. It is mandatory for Cambridge maths and can be part of an offer for some other universities. It is very difficult and it is worth checking out the Cambridge website for more details. If you are curious as to what universities ask for it, check out the individual university requirements. Most do not need it.

About 50% of students miss their offers because they fail the STEP requirements.

Oxford require the MAT https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/guide/admissions-tests/mat which is taken in the first term of Year 13.
