How can I get into UAL Fashion journalism and content creation BA (hons) ?

I would really like to-do this course at university once I finish year 13, I'm currently studying Film A level, History A level and Creative digital media BTEC. I'm not sure what I should do to increase my chances of getting in, I know I should try and find work experience probably in fashion journalism - but I'm not sure what else. If anyone has applied here and gotten In I'd love to hear what helped you get in and how the process was

Hello,
I am a UAL student rep and I am currently in my final year studying fashion journalism and content creation. It is a great course and I can offer a few tips to strengthen your application. The first thing is to acknowledge the skills you have acquired during your time at college. Your A-Levels are well connected to the course you want to do at uni so mention things you have learnt and how that has prepared you to study that at uni level. You could try joining a media team, whether at your school or local newspaper to get some experience

Also, since your courses are linked to the journalism side, you could try to get some practice or experience with the fashion side of journalism. It would be great to mention in your personal statement what ways you have increased your fashion knowledge and actively develop it.

My biggest tip is to personalise your application. Make sure to mention why the course is the best fit for you and why they should choose you. Is there a particular moment in your life or any experience that solidified your decision to do fashion journalism? It might also be a good idea to mention what you plan to do with this degree in terms of your post graduation career.

I hope this helps and I wish you the nest with your application.

I'd contact local newspapers and ask for work experience opportunities/ the chance to shadow a journalist.

You could also start a blog where you write about fashion or pitch articles to/ become a contributor for an online magazine.

For example, the online magazine The Indiependent has a film section, and they welcome applications from writers of all levels of experience.

You could also read books and articles, listen to podcasts, and watch shows and videos about journalism and fashion journalism.

Some work experience in retail might be a nice touch (and could earn you some extra cash), especially if there are no fashion companies based near you.

Finally, if we're thinking about the content creation side, you could start a podcast about fashion.
