Tips from 80% achievers in assignment

Hi anyone achieving 80% or above (even 90) on assignments any tips ? I am entering second semester and my goal is 80% as I have stuck on 70% thanks you

I mean if you are studying at University level in the UK, there is no extra credit for 80 as opposed to 70
It's unlikely you would consistently score 80s

I know but I still want tips as I would to achieve 80 or 90 for personal and parental expectations plus it looks better
I mean I am, but I'm with the OU whereby 85+ is the highest tier.

If you're with a brick uni, most of the time 70+ is the highest tier, so it really doesn't matter if you're not getting over 80. It will not change your degree classification at all.

Hello,

Generally at University students do not get higher than 80 and even then that is ambitious. Students definitely don't get as high as 90 because this messes with the statistics when they calculate your final degree grade.

It can be hard to get a first so it would be a much better idea to aim for 70 or even 75 as this is much more realistic.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please do let me know.

My husband did get two over-90s when he was doing his BA, so it's not impossible, but I agree it's rare.

The higher the marks you get, the more space there is for those marks compensating for cases where you struggle on some courses and get lower marks.

But I do agree that consistently scoring 80s is going to be exceptionally difficult (other than in cases like maths where you can theoretically get full marks on your work). And I suspect that most students, even highly motivated and talented students, would never see a mark of 80% or over at any point in their academic career.

Bristol has information at https://www.bristol.ac.uk/academic-quality/assessment/regulations-and-code-of-practice-for-taught-programmes/marking-criteria/

Note that the column for 80-100 regularly makes use of words like "exceptional" and "exceptionally". That's because work that justifies marks over 80 is beyond what would be expected from students at undergraduate level.

Hello,

83% may be possible but above 90 generally is not. However, this also likely depends on the type of assessment, the course and the institution.

Hi there,

I have improved my grades quite a bit since my first year and now quite often get firsts so I thought I could share some of my advice to hopefully help you.

Firstly, I would say that one of the things that has helped me the most is to use the marking rubric that you are given and try and follow this as closely as you can. You can see what you need to do for each grade so make sure you are following this and including everything you need to. It sometimes helps me to print this off and then I can highlight what I have and haven't done so I can see exactly what I need to do to get a first.

It's also important to make sure you make the most of any formative feedback opportunities you are given. If there is a drop in session, or any opportunity to get your tutor to look at your work, make sure that you use this and get them to look as they will tell you what needs to be improved or added to improve your work.

I also think it is important to make sure you are keeping up with your notes after each lecture/seminar so that when it comes to writing all of your assignments, you have the notes there ready to use and this will help you out.

Also, trying to write a little bit each week while the material is fresh in your mind is a good idea too! This also means that you have some written in case there is ever a chance for formative feedback.

Make sure you know how to do your referencing and make sure your reference list is always as it needs to be for your uni as this will mark you down if it is not done right. You can also usually go to sessions to help you with this if you are unsure on this.

I hope some of this helps!
