Newcastle accomodation

I'm looking at accomodation for September 2025 as I'm applying to Newcastle for Computer Science and a few accomodation options have interested me.

Would anyone be able to let me know their thoughts on Verde, Park View or the View? Is it worth going uni-owned over managed partership or does it not matter?

Thanks!

Hello @imdylan !

Our computer science building (the Urban Sciences Building or USB) is based on our Helix Site. This is right opposite St James' Park. So, if you were looking for the closest accommodation this would be The View, Verde or Wellington St Plaza. 😃

I would recommend watching some video walk-throughs on our website, they definitely gave me a better idea of student halls!

Most accommodation look the same and you will get similar amenities in all three close-by options. In Newcastle-owned or managed accommodation you will share with other Newcastle university students (typically all first year too!). Whereas, with private accommodation you might share with Northumbria University students or students in another year of study. In private halls, you might find the contract lengths are longer than university owned (e.g. 52 weeks vs 40 weeks), so you will have the accommodation over summer! Finally, the application process is slightly different. You will have to complete a separate application to the private halls.

One thing to note is that Newcastle is a small city! All of our halls are within a 20 minute walk from main campus and you will be well connected to the USB through transport links such as the metro or bus. So, you may be able to find a further away accommodation that suits your needs better or is cheaper. It is certainly worth considering all of your options 😅.

Hopefully this has been helpful and best of luck in your accommodation search! 💫

Thank you for the advice! I was thinking more Park View than Verde now, I like the look of it quite a bit. I'll definitely have to have a closer look at the view, though..
