Interviews: Cardiac Physiology (Healthcare Science)

Dear friends,
PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!!😭

So hi, I am applying for cardiac physiology (or sometimes know as/in physiological sciences). If you are already studying the course or applying, please can you help with how to prepare for interviews for the course. It would be even better if you applying at or already studying at any of the following unis: Southampton, Leeds, Swansea, Plymouth or St. George.

Thank you in advance💕

There are some tips that apply to any vocational healthcare course in the following thread:

Hey there! 👋

Unfortunately I don't study the same course so hopefully some others can help you out (!!), but I am a Plymouth student so if you have any questions about the university/city in the meantime, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help!

Best of luck with your application! ☺️

Hey current first year student at the University of Plymouth doing cardiac physiology, the interview process was very relaxed and calm do not worry or over think, apply the ethical questions to the best of your ability and answer the way you think it should be. Interview is done with lectures, best way to practice I would say it try and understand the role of a physiologist what they do who they interact with, how to deal with patients! If you can work get work experience or already have some let the Interviewers know. If you have any questions let me know!!

Hi thank you so much! I have actually just got an interview from Plymouth. Could u give me some ideas to what type/examples of clinical scenarios they give? Do u also happen to know any website/youtubers etc, who gives good examples with answers for healthcare science/cardiac physiology.
Also, I do have work experience in radiology department but it is not in cardiac. I have also mentioned this work experience in my personal statement. So can I use my radiology work experience in my interview as well?
Thank you!

Hiya ☺️

I love the university's location, which is quite unique, and that's one of the main reasons that drew me to choosing it for my studies. Plymouth is well-linked via public transport to across the UK, with good buses, trains, coaches etc within the city itself, but everything is really accessible and walkable. It's a fairly student-friendly city with every shop, restaurant, park, study spot, or café you could want with an ideal location right on the coast making for some scenic views (there's not many unis where you can walk a few minutes down the road to study with a sea view and go for a swim straight after!)

I'd say the campus is great though because it has super modern facilities and there's so much investment into student study spaces, teaching spaces, and practical equipment etc. It's a lovely place to study with a great SU with loads of events throughout the year, making it a super vibrant and friendly area both day and night.

My course, as I'm sure might be similar to healthcare subjects, is super practical and diverse in the range of things we get up to which makes for an interesting and engaging programme of study, and the lecturers are super friendly and always happy to help too.

Hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to reach out! Our next open day is in April if you're keen to have a look round- I'd definitely recommend as it's what persuaded me to join with such a lovely campus/welcoming environment and city!

Best of luck 😃

Hey! I've applied to Plymouth for Cardiac Physiology 2025, and I've also got an interview booked in for March 🥳 I've only applied to Plymouth as I live in Exeter and want to stay at home and commute.

I hope your interview goes well! Your radiology department experience will definitely help as there will be a lot of transferable skills ) I have currently been working in a pharmacy for four years so I am going to try and apply that to my answers. I'm worried about the ethical scenario questions though, ahh!

Let me know how you get on😊

hey what were your grades in A levels. did you apply through predicted grades?

Hi, I volunteered at the hospital and did various online work experiences.

There are many online ones if you can’t find one in person. Like on forage, unifrog. If you are looking to do a healthcare role maybe look at Medic Mentors online work experience, Premed projects online work experience. They are good ones that explain stuff well.

It all depends on what course/ field of the subject you want to do at uni. What course are you looking to do?

If you are looking to do a healthcare role maybe email your hospital and ask if you could do some work experience there/ volunteer.

But the most important thing is whatever work experience you do, you should be able to explain what you did during it and apply it to scenarios such as a time where you used teamwork” or when a difficult situation came up, how did you overcome it”. In your personal statement experience is important as it shows you took the initiative and wanted to learn more about your course you want to do at uni and your future career. And also remember to talk about what you learnt from it in your personal statement.

You apply to uni in y13 September - February. And you apply with the predicted grades you have got the whole year/ your mock grades …it depends on how your school/ college does it.

Also different unis and courses have different entry requirements. So it depends on what course you want to do. As you are an international student, maybe check the grade requirements and what qualifications they accept on any university website for your course.

So basically it depends on your chosen course and what unis you have in mind that you want to go to. At this point in time you don’t need to know what unis exactly you what to go to but maybe search for the courses and get an average idea of what grades they require. And get your work experience done. 🙂

I hope that makes sense 😗

Hey volunteering wise, try for healthcare assistant at hospitals, or even just care home work, volunteering isn’t something I did or people who I know on the course did at all. I wouldn’t say it’s a MUST, but it would look great on your application.

University will go based of what your prediction are for the end of your A-levels results they are normally calculated from your past / mock papers, most of them time you will get a conditional offer that may include a reduced grade but for University of Plymouth their grade asking is at least two B’s one in biology and one in a secondary science such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Science, Geography, Geology, Psychology, Nutrition or Environmental Science/Studies. Or atleast a total of 104-120 ucas points which come based of grades

They equate to

A*: 56 points

A: 48 points

B: 40 points

C: 32 points

D: 24 points

E: 16 points

Me personally I did biology and geography, philosophy and ethics.

As an international student just know you may have to do a lot more for your application so if you have an advisor you can talk to about this, make sure you talk to them and enjoy!!! I hope your A-levels go wonderfully next year and if you do chooses Plymouth I’ll hopefully see you here!!

Southampton Intreview is very calm and chill. They ask you general questions like:

Why this university?

Why this course?

How you dealt with difficuilt person?

How did you hear about this course? (this is becasue cardiac physiology is specilised course and not many people hear about it)

Where do you see yourself in something years?

Hope this helps!
