The Student Room Group

is Lse worth it for politics

Hi everyone, i’m looking for an lse student/graduate’s advice on this . i want to study politics and IR, and i’ve already had offers from manchester, bristol, warwick and sheffield. i also applied ti cambridge and am still waiting for the verdict on that, but honestly if i could have applied to lse i don’t think i would have even done that.

The main factor is money; living in london is so extortionate that it was just unrealistic for me to be able to go there next year. even if did a gap year and worked to save up, i still feel that i wouldn’t be able to uni as much because of this pressure. i also worry the social life will be worse, especially with so many international students who may just stick to their own groups; these guys will be rich rich as well and not have to worry about money as much. And ive heard as well that the offer rates are even lower than oxbridge courses which is insane.

Apart from all this, its the place i really want to go bcs its literally has political science in the name, like its the best for the subject. i also love london and being near the countries political centre would be awsome.

What are people’s thoughts. Is it worth working a boring job for a whole year just to go there? will job prospects be substantially better than other russel groups? (sorry for long post)
I would look into salary stats and do the maths, what universities offer a higher salary average for 5 five years after graduation. I think warwick has the highest, but do your research

surely that doesn’t depend on uni, but course? like ppl doing engineering will prob make the most so if there’s more of them at that uni etc

why 😭

Idk man 😭😭😭😭 its really my opinion but my friends have had good experiences there and it just seems like such a nice place to live. Dk where you live but London is very expensive but it is overall more safe and transport is better compared to outside of London. However that’s all my opinion 🤷*♀️
