Potentially. The sooner you request the change, the more likely it is to be granted. The process is outlined on this page, which essentially says to contact the admissions team and provide them the following information:
Your Name
Student ID number
The course you wish to join
Your pre-university qualifications
Recent course studied and marks achieved so far
Why you would like to study the course

I’m due to start uni in 2025, I have been given a conditional offer, so do you think I should wait till then to request it or message the admissions team now?

Ah, the fact that your question includes the phrase "in first or second year" led me to believe that you were currently at Manchester, studying Accounting. As you've not even taken your A levels yet, some of the information I've listed above to send to the admissions team doesn't really apply!

However, the main element if my response is still valid: "The sooner you request the change, the more likely it is to be granted." The longer you leave it, the more likely that their Economics and Finance course will fill up. So if you know you don't want to studying Accounting, and would rather study Economics and Finance, then ask them to switch the conditional offer now.

Note that they may decline your request. However, asking the question won't jeopardise the offer you already have.
Ah, and I've just noticed that this question was in the "Ask Student Finance England" forum, which doesn't make a lot of sense. So I've moved it to "Applications, Clearing and UCAS".
As above - ask now. If they refuse now then the chances of switching later are extremely low to none. So at least you know that before picking your firm and insurance.

Never firm a course that you hope to switch.

Which accounting course at Manchester? Rather confusingly manchester uni has at least three different accounting degrees you can apply for. I’m pretty confident that they work differently with respect to your question.

There are different courses - presumably its not the flying start degree as that doesn't do the placements as a years block (I think). Is it the BA Econ (accounting and finance) or Bsc Management (accounting and finance)? Or the BSc Accounting with Industrial/Professional Experience? Could you note the course number please?

Is the BSc accounting with Industrial/Professional experience. The UCAS code is N400

I think if you want to change course you would need to contact the university now to see if they will allow you to amend your application. I don't think there are enough common first year courses to transfer in year 2.

You categorically cannot transfer to any programme ran by the Manchester Econ dept at end of first or second year.

AMBS are usually very reluctant to allow it, too

The University of Manchester allows students to change their course, but there are some conditions and procedures to follow.
Course Transfer Policy
The University of Manchester has a course transfer policy that permits students to transfer to a different course within the university, subject to certain criteria.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a course transfer, you typically need to:
1. _Meet the entry requirements_: Ensure you meet the entry requirements for the new course, including any specific A-level or GCSE grades.
2. _Have a good academic record_: You'll typically need to have achieved a satisfactory academic performance in your current course.
3. _Demonstrate a strong rationale_: Provide a clear and compelling reason for transferring to the new course.
Transfer Process
If you're interested in transferring from Accounting to Eco and Finance, follow these steps:
1. _Consult with your academic advisor_: Discuss your intentions with your academic advisor to determine the feasibility of the transfer.
2. _Research the new course_: Familiarize yourself with the Eco and Finance course structure, content, and entry requirements.
3. _Submit a transfer request_: Complete the university's internal transfer application form, providing your reasons for transferring and any supporting documentation.
4. _Meet with the new department_: You may be required to meet with the admissions tutor or academic staff from the Eco and Finance department to discuss your application.
Timing
Transfers can usually be made during the following periods:
1. _End of first year_: You can apply to transfer courses at the end of your first year, subject to meeting the entry requirements and having a good academic record.
2. _Start of second year_: In some cases, transfers might be possible at the start of the second year, but this is less common.
It's essential to note that course transfers are subject to availability and approval from the relevant departments. Meeting the entry requirements and having a good academic record does not guarantee a transfer.
Recommendation
To increase your chances of a successful transfer, I recommend:
1. _Seeking advice from your academic advisor_: Discuss your options and create a plan.
2. _Meeting with the Eco and Finance department_: Introduce yourself, discuss your interests, and learn more about the course.
3. _Keeping your academic record strong_: Ensure you maintain a good academic performance to increase your chances of a transfer.
Please consult with the University of Manchester's admissions team and your academic advisor for personalized guidance on the course transfer process.
