Nottingham Trent uni for Fine Art?

I'm trying to decide what to put for my 5th Uni choice for Fine Art. I ideally want a campus uni, good nightlife, good course, So far I'm considering: Loughborough, Reading, Bath Spa, Oxford Brookes. Any other suggestions?? I was considering Nottingham and Trent but keep hearing mixed things about it (that it hasn't got a good reputation?). Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts on Nottingham Trent would be great.

Hi Shellfish1,

I hope you're doing well! I studied Biological Sciences, which is a bit different from Fine Art, but I faced a similar decision when choosing between Oxford Brookes University (OBU), Reading, and Nottingham Trent University.
I chose Oxford Brookes because I liked the course, the city, and the experience I had at the open day I attended. The Headington Campus is made up of three sites, with Fine Art taught at the Headington Hill site, close to both the main Gypsy Lane site and Clive Booth Student Village. The Headington Hill Site is across the road from the Gypsy Lane Site, so they are very much connected. There's always something happening on campus, from career fairs to society events, and the city centre, which offers good nightlife and cultural opportunities, is just a short bus ride or walk away. There are great transport options around Oxford, so it is easy to navigate and the BrookesKey makes it cost-effective.
OBU’s Fine Art course is ranked 6th in the Guardian Fine Art subject league table for 2025, and you can find more details about the course here: Oxford Brookes Fine Art. I’ve enjoyed my time at Brookes and have chosen to stay for my Master’s and PhD because of the supportive environment, the social events that happen on campus and in the city centre, and the high teaching quality.

I unfortunately do not have an in-depth experience of Nottingham Trent University. I had a trip there with my college and attended an open day, but from my limited interactions with Nottingham Trent University, I know that it also has a good reputation for creative courses. The mixed feedback you’ve heard may relate to personal preferences, so I recommend visiting an open day if you’re unsure.

Attending open days for any universities you’re considering is a great way to get a feel for the campus, the facilities, and the overall vibe. Reading, Nottingham Trent and OBU are set up differently, so I think the best thing to do is to experience it yourself. You can sign up for an Oxford Brookes open day here: OBU Open Days.

Let me know if you have any questions—I’m happy to help!

Hi @Shellfish1,

I hope you're applications are going well! I would definitely agree with other commenters that the best way to get a feel for NTU or any other University would to be to visit an Open Day. We have one upcoming this Saturday as well as on the 8th of March and 26th of April.

Studying Fine Art on our City Campus can give you the best of both worlds, with close proximity to city centre attractions, but its own distinct space to call your own. I'd encourage seeing our Life in Nottingham page to see what makes us a top 10 UK student city (QS Best Student Cities 2025).

We're proud of the opportunities on offer for our Fine Art students, including a number of national and European trips during the course. Recent UK destinations have included Liverpool Biennial festival, Glasgow International festival, and various London galleries. European destinations have included Berlin and Copenhagen. Our Graduate Festival showcase can give you an idea of some of the fantastic work produced by our students as well!

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I'm Charlotte a year 2 Graphic Design student from Norwich Uni Arts.

That's great to hear that you're considering fine art at uni! My housemate is currently studying that in her third year and is loving it! We may not be a campus uni, however we do have some incredible facilities throughout our uni, and our buildings are all so close together dotted around the city of Norwich! Details of our Fine Art course can be found here: Norwich Uni Arts courses.

Best of luck in choosing a uni, I know it can be a daunting time, but I'm more than happy to answer any questions that you may have 🙂
