A level subjects for Criminology & Psychology

Hi my daughter is doing her GCSEs and thinking about what subjects and Unis would be best for her to go into to do Criminology and Psychology.
Her chosen GCSEs have been Latin, History and Business along with the other required subjects, and is predicted 8s and 9s.
I would love to help her make the right choices as I personally was never very academic and struggled throughout school so feel really out of my depth here. I'm so incredibly proud of how well she is doing and don't want to give any wrong advice.
She loves history and wants to go into a career around historical criminal cases and the psychology around it.
What A levels would you recommend she takes and what university would be the best place for her once she has finished A levels?

She needs to look at the 'entry requirements' on the specific course pages at a range of Unis for the course that she wants to do. They will state clearly any required A level subjects. She should also check if there are any specific GCSE requirements. Examples :
Criminology & Psychology (Hons) | BSc | University of Southampton
Criminology and Psychology, BSc (Hons) - Swansea University
Psychology with Criminology BSc (Hons) Undergraduate Course | Nottingham Trent University
Hi there!

There are hundred of options for Universities for a BSc Psychology and Criminology around the UK - as far as subject requirements, I have made a list below of a few of these Unis spread across the UK's entry requirements to give more of an idea of what is needed:

Aberystwyth - BBB-CCC (no subject requirements)

Bradford - BBC (no subject requirements)

Brighton - BBB-BCC (no subject requirements)

Kings College London - A*AA (no subject requirements)

Chester - BBC-BCC (no subject requirements)

Southampton - AAB (no subject requirements)

Lancaster - AAB (no subject requirements)

As you can see, the entry requirements vary but there are no specific subjects required for admission onto those courses! I recommend your daughter to study the subjects at A-level that she loves, and those seem to be aligned with the course she wants to take anyway

As far as what University to go to, this all depends on what her predicted grades end up being - you can see that many University offer a very attainable entry of BBB-BCC, with some requiring higher grades. I recommend going to as many open days as possible, as you will be able to get more of a feel on what modules they would be - usually the modules at different Universities will have very different focuses despite being named the same programme. As well as this, this helps decide what type of place she would want to live for Uni, whether it be a city uni or a campus uni, or if she wants to stay closer to home or move really far. There are so many options available here!!

I would also look into which degrees are accredited by a professional body - this essentially gives you recognition of your professional status and that you meet standards set by the professional body - this is really good on a CV and may separate candidates apart for jobs in the future! Really worth researching in my opinion!!

Of course, I would be stupid if I didn't suggest to you LJMU as a great option to look into! We have a similar requirement to the others in the list, of BBC-ABB being the typical range of entry grades onto the course, for a BSc Criminology and Psychology.

I'll post the link below, but here are a few highlights of the course:

Accredited programme, giving students eligibility for membership of the British Psychological Society after graduation

Lots of optional modules in 2nd and 3rd year, to shape your degree to what you are most interested in

Many links to ongoing researchers and practitioners in the field

BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University

LJMU also offers very similar courses that your daughter might also be interested in looking into, such as:

Criminal Justice

Criminal Law and Justice

Criminology and Sociology

Criminology

Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice

Good luck to your daughter!! I hope this helps somewhat
