I screwed up and missed a uni exam worth 80%

I'm in my first year and had a online exam from 9am-4pm today and I idiotically thought it would be from 9am-9pm because my two other online exams were at those times, so i assumed this would be too. And I tried to start it at 5pm but then realised that it was already over. It was worth 80% of the module... I know it's on me and it's my fault and I'll make sure to pay extra attention to exam timings from now on. But yeah, 😔 it sucks so if there's any other students out there, don't make the same mistake i did and make sure to double check your exam timings.

Hi @thestarfalcon

Oh no, that must be really frustrating for you! Online exams are always really difficult, especially if the timings suddenly change. It sounds like you're doing really well to bounce back as you've said you're going to pay extra attention from now on- that's really good!

Do you know if you'll be able to resit the exam? It might be worth having a chat with your advisor so they can point you in the right direction to find out some more information about what missing the exam means, but I'm sure you're already on top of all that. Hopefully you can either take it again or make up for it somehow.

In the meantime, I hope you're doing okay and not beating yourself up too much. These things happen, you're only in your first year and like you said this is the only exam that has different timings. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and if you have any questions or want to talk things through, just let me know 🙂

All the best,

i can resit but it'll be capped at 40% but that's better than 0, i'll do better in my other modules to make up for this and thankfully my first year doesn't count toward my degree. Thank you for your support

Hey there , I can somewhat understand where you're coming from. A similar thing happened to me with coursework I thought was due at 14:00 but it was actually due at 12:00 . Because I submitted it late I got capped at 40% and because of the academic policy there was nothing my lecturer could do to assist. Luckily for me it was in second year and this would not affect my overall grade too much.
Although it was a horrible experience it did make me very vigilant moving forward and I never missed another submission again , in fact now I submit all my course work the day before it is due and I've never been capped again.
The best thing I did after this happened was to attend a time management and planning course offered by our library . It helped me use different Apps and AI to manage my submissions and use reminders to stay on track.

Wish you all the best in your future studies

A cautionary tale - just bad luck. You can rescue it elsewhere, I am sure.

Hi!

I'm so sorry you're in this situation! I understand how frustrating this must be. I want to offer some reassurance; you should be able to complete this as a resit and it won't affect your grade. Obviously every course and uni are different but generally this should be the case.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂
