Chem A-Level

I'm a year 11 student who has chosen to do Chemistry, Maths and Economics for A-level. I'm currently taking IGCSE Edexcel Chemistry (Double Award) which obviously isn't ideal but if I learn the triple content over the summer do you think I'll be fine?
My chemistry teacher also said the for A-level you're retaught most of the GCSE content...

i took combined science at gcse and was worried about the same thing but your teacher is right that it realistically makes no difference because they go over it all anyway

Yes and no. There are aspects of A level chemistry that reteach bits of GCSE, however most of it is new stuff entirely and there are bits where they tell you that GCSE lied to you and so you learn the correct explanations instead. Also, some topics from GCSE chemistry are not re-taught at A level (electrolysis isn’t covered at A level, for example).

You’ll be fine provided you are willing to put the work in to understand the material and you’ll do even better still if you genuinely enjoy chemistry and study it because you want to.

Year 13 here- Yes! its honestly fine- I did IGCSE edexcel triple award, and I know a few people in my chemistry class who have done double award. At the moment we are doing AQA chemistry and its not been too much of an issue as you learn it all from scratch anyways. Honestly from my memory the IGCSE specification is quite thorough anyways, so you wont have too much of a problem. Most of the alevel is quite different to GCSE anyways- if I were you I'd focus on absolutely making sure you have calculation questions nailed and your understanding of organic chemistry (and see if theres organic chemistry that wasn't taught in double award). Good idea to go through the triple content over summer though, the alevel can feel a bit fast paced. Also when you are going through triple content, try find the alevel spec and check that the topic is in your alevel, because some GCSE topics dont show up at alevel like someone else mentioned, and do enjoy your year 11 summer. good luck!
