english language paper 1 question 5

hey, so i want to pre plan for my english language paper 1. I dont have a test or anything but i have gcses and im doing reivison as one does. Im trying to find descriptions and stuff i can memorise but chat gpt IS NOT HELPING. It's giving me some basic sentences and if it does give me a description it just keeps describing the scenery. I've read grade 9 answers and they dont even have descriptions really. I mean not of the scenery. I dont know if i should memorise decriptions because i did that last time and i got 24/40 which isnt very good. Im confused cuz what else am i meant to do. All the grade 9 answers have such 'complex' ideas apparently and..idk how to do that. Ik in the markscheme it says to be compelling. But im not a writer, idk how to do that. Writing beautiful descriptions in my story clealry didnt help. I only got marks for my good vocabulary. Any advice?

okay so i got 35/40 (second one) last mock in comparison to the 25/40 (first one) I got on my first try.
there is a major difference between both pieces.

1) make a very very basic storyline
My first story was childish
The girl was being followed etc in an abandoned smth and there were multiple characters
My second one was simple. It was just about a normal guy inspired by myself (just kinda an exaggeration of me and my emotions). This basic storyline helps u talk about the characters feelings, emotions, the sky, the environment in much more depth and build an image.

2) read
ik it sounds long and boring but reading helps. Instead of memorising long words and trying to use it in ur writing just read and ull pick up words naturally. I was listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks (listened to all of them multiple times) and I grasped how the author created an image, shifted to emotions etc. Listening to her use varied sentnece structures etc subconsciously found ots way into my writing

2) use varied punctuation
Tbh I only had a semi colon colon and dash- maybe if I added more I would've scored more but ik it helps u get more marks

3) don't let structure confine u
Ik how some ppl say para 1 tall about setting para 2 do this etc etc but I just wrote a new paragraph whenever there was a change in focus or tone or speech or smth

4) be wary about using chatgpt
Its boring. I'll tell it to write me a story it'll guve be some random ludicrous description which isn't really applicable and sounds stupid. It's a robot i5 doesn't know what's stupid or not. I use chaghpt for almost everything but it has never worked for creative writing.

5) maybe instead of a pre planned story have some pre planned events. Eg the character is running in a forest or smth. Make sure u can describe this rly well with ur own good words and imagery so whenever there's the exam u can immediately write about it.

Also know what works best for u. I hate writing in 3rd person n I tried n thought it'd make my work sound more mature but ended up w 25. I like first person more, I'm more comfy with it so I stuck with that.

Hope these help
