Struggling to find a job on my gap year at 18

I took a gap year to get some money in before university and yet 4 months into my gap year and I can't get 1 job. Every company rejects me pre-interview. I checked my CV with a workplace and they said it's fine. I have no work experience which makes this harder. I have experience as a volunteer food bank worker and tutor for students and that's it. I've never had a paid job. My older brother was in the same position and it only took him a couple of months to get a job, (it was 2019 so pre-covid). I really need a job. Any advice?

I was in the same position and so I turned to voluntary work, as many jobs require previous experience. What sort of jobs are you looking for? If it's shop work, for example, I would apply for charity shops first. While it's harder to find somewhere to be paid, many places welcome more help and it will look good on your CV as well.

British heart Foundation is a good one (or any charity shop) I started volunteering with them in July last year. I didn't need any experience, they do stuff like shop floor and warehouse volunteers. I think they also pay for your bus travel.
