how does my hair colour affect my learning

I just got a detention because my hair isn’t a natural colour.
Im sick and tired of my school making up new rules WITHOUT TELLING US. My school has always had a rule about how our hair colour needs to be a natural colour (so basically no bright red, green, blue, pink etc) which I completely understand but it never included burgundy. I’ve been at this school for more than 4 years now and before they never used to tell people off for having burgundy braids or wine red hair…so why is it now all of a sudden they no longer want us to wear the colour. Our school uniform policy is usually printed in our planners however this year our school decided to not give us planners because they are “trying to save money”. I assumed that burgundy braids were still allowed until this term every damn teacher that I walk past keeps on telling me that my HOY is going to tell me off for my hair. And the thing is A LOT of black girls in my year chose to get burgundy braids this term so it’s obvious a lot of people didn’t know that this was a “new rule”.

The main reason why I’m so mad about this is because my HOY is only giving us 1 week to take out our braids. I don’t think my severely overweight white HOY realises that braids takes atleast a week to take down, comb, wash hair, blow dry, find a hairstylist to redo my hair. And I hate getting my hair done especially during school because they hurt really bad after first getting them done. Anyways I need help lol

What sort of help are you seeking?

You seem to have accepted that burgundy is not a natural hair colour, and so has always been in violation of the school's policy (even if they didn't previously enforce the policy as strictly as they now seem to be doing).

You've also said that to "take down, comb, wash hair, blow dry, find a hairstylist to redo my hair" will take a week - which is fine because you've been given a week to do so.

If you think you might miss the deadline because you're unable to get an appointment at a hairstylist in time, then book the first appointment you can and let your head-of-year know that you've do so. As long as the appointment is only slightly beyond the deadline, then they're likely to accept that you've done your best to accommodate them - thus making any repercussions (like further detentions)
unlikely.
