Veterinary Medicine Courses

I completed my IGCSE and AS levels, subjects were Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Languages. I want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I am not planning to do my A2 Level. I am currently doing an apprenticeship where I am working under a dog trainer.

So my question is, will it be possible for me to become a vet/ vet nurse/ vet tech without my A2 Level? And if yes, which universities will accept me?

And if vet medicine isn't possible, what other careers are there that is similar to vet medicine?

Without a qualification equivalent to or exceeding A levels, I think it's unlikely for Veterinary Medicine. For example, UCLan's Foundation Year for Veterinary Medicine requires BBB at A2. You're going to need chemistry and biology for veterinary for most unis. Vet Nursing might be possible - there are diplomas for that as well.

What is your apprenticeship subject and at which level?

The quick answer is no. The more detailed answer is that as a mature student you would be able to apply if you did an access course as long as that specific access course is accepted by the schools you apply to. For example Bristol will accept a certain course but Nottingham will only let you apply to the gateway course with it. But stopping short of A levels or their equivalents will not enable you to apply to a veterinary medicine/ science course.

You wouldn’t be able to apply if you don’t have A2 qualifications or equivalent I’m pretty sure as they ask for it. Have a look at the entry requirements on the uni course websites it’ll say there
