I lost the first University year for discrimination due to my autistic condition. I won the case with OIA but lost the second and third semester. I had to restart from year one in another University. No one told me that because I was 60 when started again the first year I lost the entitlement to the Maintenance loan.
I appealed to the SF decision and today their outcome was negative.
Now I need to know what I can do next. Below my reply to the appeal team.
"I would like to express my concerns regarding the fairness of this decision. As previously detailed, I have been a victim of discrimination, which has been recognized by the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA). It is disheartening to think that I would be required to bear the consequences of circumstances where I have been already a victim. As a result of the OIA decision, Birkbeck University had to readmit me to my studies, yet I unfortunately lost the opportunity to complete my second and third terms. Consequently, I had no choice but to restart my education from the first year. In addition, for my well-being, I could not continue to study at the same University where I had been discriminated against. Furthermore, I was not informed by the Student Finance team at any stage that this situation would result in the forfeiture of my Maintenance Loan, amounting to £14,400 after deductions from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which I would not have needed to repay. This financial loss significantly impacts my ability to continue my studies. I respectfully ask for a reconsideration of your decision as an exception to the norm. I believe that the 30 credits I earned during my first year at Birkbeck, which have been transferred to Goldsmith, support my case for this being deemed a continuation of my education rather than the commencement of a new course. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide on how to further pursue this matter. As an autistic student, I find this situation to be particularly overwhelming and anxiety and depression-inducing.
