Applying for mechanical engineering with an aerospace engineering personal statement

So my personal statement is mostly if not all about aerospace engineering and originally I wanted to just do a bachelors in aerospace then a masters. Now I want to do a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering then do a master in aerospace (that's possible right). Right now I am trying to change my personal statement up a bit to lean towards mechanical engineering.

Am I at a disadvantage if my personal statement is mainly about aerospace rather than mechanical engineering?

Also, anything related to mechanical engineering that is useful to put on my personal statement would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I don't think you're at a disadvantage if your personal statement leans towards aerospace engineering as it demonstrates a clear passion for engineering overall, which is highly valued in mechanical engineering applications. Both fields share foundational principles, so you can frame your interest in aerospace as part of a broader enthusiasm for engineering challenges, problem-solving, and innovation. To tailor it further, consider emphasising transferable skills or experiences, such as problem-solving, teamwork, or hands-on projects, and highlight any interest in areas like thermodynamics, robotics, or design, which are core to mechanical engineering. This will show your adaptability and genuine curiosity for the field, making your application stronger. I also suggest you asking a teacher to look over your personal statement and ask for their advice if you are conflicted on what to do!
