How long to hear back after job interview?

So I applied for a job at Travel Money and had my interview on the 18th of last month. I didn't hear anything for a while; I assumed there must be delays due to Christmas and New year. Just before New year I rang up the hiring manager to ask whether any decisions were made, I was told that interviews are still being done as some people rescheduled and that I should get a decision by the 5th. After not hearing anything I rang again on the 7th and the manager did not answer, so I sent them a text just letting them know that I am excited for the opportunity and whether there were any updates to my application. I have been left on read since then. I was hopeful of getting this job as I have previous experience in Sainbsurys as a christmas temp.

If (as told by the manager) a decision was made on the 5th, surely I should've got the automated rejection email by now or are Sainsburys just really slow. Is being ghosted a 'polite' way of rejecting or is there still a small chance of getting the job?

I have applied for countless part time retail jobs and had no success, this was the first job that I actually received an invite for an interview the others were straights rejects or being ghosted. Being unemployed for so long is causing me so much distress. I thought of going with an agency until i find a proper job but they only offer 12hr shifts which are mostly nightshifts. The job centre are useless. I dont know what to do anymore :frown:

Any advice guys plsss?

i mean if you should've heard from them by the 5th then it is likely that you have been rejected but it might be worth giving them another call in a few days if you've still not received a rejection. I don't really know about this specific company so can't really help you there. I don't know if this is the situation you're in but i found that if you have not much experience then smaller company's are more likely to take you on (ie small cafes etc), don't get me wrong finding a job is difficult and it's a long process but your best bet is to just keep on top of applying for all sorts of things. make sure to get signed up to job alerts on websites like indeed or maybe a more specific one to your area. good luck with the search
