You have all 9s, so you are one of the brightest students in the country as well as 3A* at A-Level. Oxford Economics & Management is the second most competitive course after Computer Science at Oxford University. Perhaps, you can discuss your problems with your tutor in the subject you're having problems with? 😧

Is it the amount of work that is getting to you? Or are you depressed by studying all the time? Perhaps you need to visit the libraries more often and make friends with other students and especially fellow students on your course?!

Don't drop out as you could work in Investment Banking/Hedge Funds and become a multi-millionaire or even billionaire in 20 years time!!! 😉 lol Economics & Management at Oxford University is a 'lottery' to gain admission into and it would be a waste of your 'true' talent to drop out now.

I hope things improve for you after you discuss your concerns with your course tutor(s).

yes I think it would be a waste to drop out, but i am really struggling with balancing the workload in a healthy way. I find that I am always studying and if I dont, I fall behind. But I also always feel lost with content and cant really retain much information for too long. Im also struggling with self doubt as everyone else seems to be coping better. I think the friends aspect plays a lot into it as well, since I am studying all the time Im quite isolated and dont really go out much and have not made many friends since uni started. Not sure how to change this, and worried that if I start to dedicate more time to socialising Ill struggle even more academically.

intermit or rusticate if u need to. it seems like at cambridge u don't even need a proper reason. or get some Adderall or whatever off someone

Have you spoken to your tutors about how you are feeling? Does your college have a student mentor who can help with study skills advice? Have you spoken to anyone on the college welfare team?

If tutors know that you are struggling they may be able to offer some practical tips and also some reassurance how you are doing relative to the cohort.

There is masses of student support provision in Oxford but you need to reach out for it.

Sit in the common room and read a newspaper or magazine perhaps? Then you might chat with a new friend?

Or sit and watch TV in the common room? Make a new friend(s) perhaps?

Or even better join a few clubs and societies? here is the link:

https://www.ox.ac.uk/students/life/clubs/list

Your main issue is not networking with other students. Because you would reduce your workload if you interacted and shared your ideas with your fellow students perhaps?

Good luck.

The OP is a real student at a real university with a real problem. Please stop projecting your unrealistic financial aspirations onto others.

OP, have you spoken to the welfare staff at your college, and to your tutors about the problems you are experiencing? The step from sixth form to university is a big step.

Are you actually struggling to keep up? Is this reflected in your work, or is it how you feel?
With exams coming up you may be feeling overwhelmed, join a society and take some time out, and try to find some study buddies, it really helps to sometimes throw ideas at each other and to study together.
Keep your chin up and try to relax, you clearly are very bright and deserve to be there as much everyone else.
Try and make a few small changes in your daily routine and don’t isolate yourself. All the best, you are amazing.

I don't agree that there is 'masses of support' - it's very variable.

yh some directors of studies at cambridge can be so judgmental and sneery. Wouldn't necessarily recommend sharing ur personal struggles with them. Honestly having ppl to study with is the most helpful thing. And just having friends and societies and a life. But obvs it is hard to make loads of new social contacts when you feel awful and are/feel behind and drowning.
