Hello,
I am a big lover of classical music and not only do I listen to Classic FM pretty much all day every day when studying, due to the research behind the Mozart effect that classical music can improve grades and learning, but I also love going to see the Leicester Symphony Orchestra and even the London Philharmonia Orchestra.

I have many classical favourites, too many to think of and list all here, but my very favourite piece at the moment, since only last year, has been Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.5, the Emperor. I may be biased but Beethoven's music offers, to quote Alex DeLarge from Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange "pure bliss".

Also, some ballets are coming up in March, but I'm not sure which one to attend. Do you wish to help me?

The Nutcracker Suite
Swan Lake
Romeo and Juliet

If you have any questions at all or want to know more please do let me know.

I'm definitely not the most knowledgeable person about classical music (despite doing a very Western art/classical music undergrad degree!), but I do like attending concerts when possible! My favourite piece? Probably the last movement of Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique :ahee:

I really love the score for Swan Lake. If you haven't seen Matthew Bourne's version of it, it's touring this year and I'd thoroughly recommend seeing it! https://www.new-adventures.net/swan-lake#overview

Thank you for that recommendation!

I very much like Pines of Rome by Respighi
Other than that I'm very partial to Bach, in particular his minor pieces but I haven't yet heard any Bach composition that I haven't enjoyed.

Yes a few I listen to: Wagner’s Ring, on a less “heavy” note, though very emotionally heavy, Winterreise (there’s a beautiful recent setting from the university of Leipzig on YouTube), Vaughan Williams settings of “I saw a fair maiden” (mediaeval Roman Catholic Marian song) and other folk songs, Warlock’s three Belloc Songs, there’s a more refined setting of Masefield’s Captain Stratton’s Fancy that I think is also Warlock.
