a level options

hi guys, im about to pick my a level options and im a little confused on the best combination of subjects so if anyone could share any advice it would be great!

i am currently thinking of maths, economics and psychology but im not sure if there are other subject combo's that work better together. i want to go down a psychology or economics pathway at uni which is why i have gone for these subjects however my school requires us to pass an additional maths exam to take maths at a level so in the case that i don't pass the exam i need to pick another subject instead of maths and im unsure what to take.

if anyone could give their suggestions and also lmk about good unis for these courses then it'll be really helpful!!

I'm also thinking of taking maths, economics and psychology and I also have to take an entrance test for maths 😭 if I don't get into maths I'll probably take English lit as that would go well with psychology and economics (for the writing skills also I wanna go into law so that goes into it asw), for psychology I'd recommend you take biology if you want to go down that route and for maths does your school provide electives? if so you can take additional maths. another subject I think would go well w economics is geography. for unis, my brother went to Warwick which is a very good uni for economics and I think it's ranked 3rd for economics in the country - im not sure about psychology though. anyways gl

You need to start by looking which A levels a range of different Unis actually require for the degree subjects that interest you. For Psychology its usually at least one science / science related subject, sometimes two - and for Economics at top Unis, Maths will be essential, but A level Economics won't be

Two Unis to start with :
Undergraduate subject areas - University of Birmingham
Undergraduate courses for entry in 2025 | The University of Manchester

That combination would work for both psychology and economics degrees at most unis. You'll want to keep maths ideally (especially for econ). If you end up not being able to do it I'd recommend biology, as I've seen a few (but not all) psych degrees require 2 from maths, psychology, bio, chem, physics (and bio is prob the most relevant for a psych degree). It all depends on what uni you want to go to really.

yeahh i was defo thinking biology but if i dont get maths, is there any university that will allow you to take econ without maths? the only uni i've seen that allows this is birmingham.

I know Nottingham allows it too (although they still say they prefer maths). Theres also some unis that offer BA Economics (instead of a BSc) and usually these don't require maths.
