Maintenance loan

I can't get my answers when I call Student finance 😭 My application is in progress, but for some reason showing the highest maintenance amount I could get over 7k (they have provided the numbers online for me) I am aiming for the highest but the highest outside of London is over 10k and I meet the criteria I have checked on gov calculator and there are no deductions for me. I have spoken to gazillion team members of student finance as don't want my application be delayed any longer but they helpless and don't even know what I am talking about the last guy I spoke to he agreed to what I said and he said according to all the info I have provided I should be entitled to the 10k and he is not sure why it's quoting me the 7k as highest maintenance loan all he can do he can put a note he said. Anyone else had this ?? Will that change when my application has been assest ?? I just don't get why they would give me the number if it's incorrect??? Really stressed me out!! Help pls

I will be living in rented accommodation where I live now. I am a mature student with kids so I don't live with parents but for some reason I think they may class my application as living at home I will have to see but I don't live at home with my parents if that makes sense I am a parent myself and will be just me and kids

Hi Paula,

Can you confirm what year of the course you're in i.e. 1st year, 2nd year, final year etc? Are you repeating a year or part year at all? Do you have a sponsor supporting your application?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Paula. In this case we can only ask again that you contact us over the phone or via live chat from your online account. From here we can only provide general information and there can potentially be multiple reasons why you have not been assessed for the full amount, we require an adviser to access your account and fully check why this amount has been awarded. Thanks, David

That's the thing they don't do it when I call they like oh if you think it's incorrect it's incorrect only one person looked and agreed with me but he said he can't help me as he is not sure why it's showing like that he checked my circumstances and said what I say it's correct but all he can do it's put a note on the account hence I don't know who to talk to about this

Hi Paula,

Can you try sending us a live chat on your account instead? When you login the option should appear.

Once of our team should be able to help.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi I don't mind to contact them but they don't know the answers...

I have figured out today that I am starting from a second semester but finishing with the first, so still a full year of the course would this have been communicated to the student finance by the university?

Yes, that's right - the university would tell us if you weren't studying the whole year.

When they do that, we need to adjust your funding.

So, based on what you've said, it sounds like this may be what's happened.

Just to confirm, are you not studying the whole academic year, just part of the year?

Thanks, Graeme
Full year, Jan to December including the summer

Hi Paula, thank you for confirming. Your funding would then be pro rata'd based on the dates you are in study. Thanks, Jason

But that's the thing how can it be pro rata if it's full year? I am studying full time from January to end of September including the summer so full full year of study. 3 semesters...

If you are in study for the full year (without any breaks) you'd be assessed for the full year. Did you change your living location or have a break in study? Thanks, Jason

No and no, it's still on progress but already says the highest maintenance loan only up to 7k

As a single mother, living on my own without other finance I am sure and according to the gov calculator online shou
No and no

As a single mother, living on my own with kids and no other income I should be entitled to 10277 maintenance loan my application is still in progress but already suggests on my account max I can get is 7k however when I enter my circumstances to the gov calculator it also says 10277 according to my circumstances. It's full year course, Starting January to December (fully full time with no breaks apart from the regular breaks full time students would have ) the only difference it's starting in January rather than September and I will be studying throughout the summer unlike other students who started in September as they would have summer off.

Hi Paula,

We can't see your account as we can't access accounts on this platform. If your application has been assessed for the basic finance, this will be why it's a lower amount till the Grants for Dependents Team review your application, because you have told us you have children. Once the application has been means tested for the highest finance. If you still think this is wrong, then you would need to call us or contact us on live chat so we can check the funding. If you're unhappy with what the advisor is saying, you can ask to speak to manager. This would only be able to be done if you call.

Thanks,
Claire
