Uni residence

Is it true that many uni residences have bugs and reception people don't do anything, also do you guys have to share rooms or smt?
Whilst I never lived in halls of residence before, I knew people who did and can't say I heard much about any issues with the rooms themselves i.e. "bugs" (I'm assuming you don't mean spy bugs i.e. cameras, also didn't hear anything about those either). I did however hear stories of randos on sofas in the morning (this happened to me many times when living in shared houses) or flatmates bringing back a different guy on a nightly basis (we called them strays) which IMO is worse, particularly when you get a knock in the middle of the night asking to use your toilet...

As far as I'm aware, on campus accommodation doesn't typically offer shared rooms though, shared communal areas yes i.e. kitchen, living room, hallway etc... but that's about it.

I can't speak for every university however, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Hi there,

I lived in 3 different residences in Leicester, specifically Unite Students halls and De Montfort University managed halls - never seen anything like that

Take care,
Ilya

Hi there @Yule_ , I lived in student halls during my first year of university and fortunately did not encounter any bugs or pests! Regarding sharing rooms, this is quite unlikely but depends entirely on the type of room offered by the uni's hall of residence! It is more likely you share a bathroom and kitchen with other people than sharing a bedroom. Hope this helps 🙂

Hi there,
As a Coventry University student ambassador, I can reassure you that while some students may experience occasional issues with accommodation, it's not a widespread problem. The university takes student concerns seriously, and if you encounter any issues with your residence, including cleanliness or pests, it's best to report it to the accommodation team or reception, who will address it promptly.

Regarding room sharing, most of Coventry's on-campus residences offer private rooms, though there may be some shared apartments or kitchens. Always check your accommodation details beforehand to ensure it suits your preferences.

If you have concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to the university! I hope this information helps you.

Thanks & Regards,
Coventry University Student Ambassador
