Why is my driving instructor making me to postpone my test

Hi.

So my test is in a few weeks and my instructor is making me postpone it, I completely do not understand why. They have just said I am not ready, but didn’t give me any justification to as why they don’t think I am ready.

I value their opinion as they a professionals but I would also like to know where I can improve so I can be test ready, I feel confident that I can pass (maybe even with only 1 or 2 minors more due to test day nerves which won’t go away no matter how much practice I have) but my instructor disagrees. We have been through all the practical skills many times and I have had a lot of private practice as well so I don’t think my test needs to be moved by 4 months.

I honestly don’t want my test moved by that long. I would rather go and do it and fail, then wait another 6 months to do another one as there is no guarantee I will pass if I do it in 4 months.

So just take the test.

If your instructor can't explain why, or doesn't have a specific plan of things for you to work on then there is nothing for you to action. Ignore them. Worst case, you fail like most first-timers and have to rebook.

Trust in your driving instructor is key, if you don’t feel this I’d say it’s best to make a change. Alternatively ask him to explain in detail why he thinks you’re not ready. If he genuinely feels you’re not ready though it’s not unreasonable to suggest postponement
