ok i did make this thread a while ago but i got hijacked and deleted, so i will ask my question again. what is it like being on them? and im not trying being to be rude or unsensivitve
From what i've been told they just take away any emotions from you at all, so you dont have the unconsolable lows where you feel helpless, but you don't get the highs either, its just like being emotionally and mentally numb and having no feelings at all, very weird.
i was self harming and starving myself. there was no time for scans.
There are hundreds of different types of cognitive therapy. SH can be controled, even if it is not in co-operation. There are thousands of harmers, they don't all need urgent treatment. Most of them never seek help, for harming or whatever is causing them to harm. It's the nature of the NHS that I don't agree with, if the person isn't safe then they can be sectioned, or observed in their home (by relatives) etc If that action isn't needed then waiting a little while for a scan really isn't going to be that bad. Especially when you consider that most AD's take a while to work as they are started on a low dose, and the majority of people will have side effects for a couple weeks or so. I didn't have that long of a wait for scans, and the results don't take that long either.
For me my depression is caused by situations and things that have happened in my life. I may have been prediposed to depression, but i doubt it would have happened had things in my life not turned out the way they did.
Anti-depressants took the edge off for me, and they continue to do so. I tried to kill myself lots of times,a nd i haven't wanted to do that since i've been on the latest medication. It has lots of bad points too. But for now its helping me stay on an even keel.

Just because thousands of people self harm doesnt make it any more bearable. Hav u ever self harmed? cos im interested to know how u controlled it if u did.
Different types of therapy allow you to take hold of what's getting to you and handle it, deal with it, or put it behind you. Pills just make you feel better, but wont fix it. QUOTE] Arghhh!!! i have said before there is nothing 'getting to me' . Do you have depression?

It doesn't make it anymore bearable no, but it does show that it is managable. Yeh. I think I tried everyway possible. Everything worked, but it was just a matter of how long it worked for...2 minutes or 2 months. Making yourself get treatment for everything (I didn't like nurses). Not making an effort to hide it and facing the looks. (both mainly making my self feel worse after so I won't do it again) Seeing it as an ok thing to do and not condeming it at all worked for a while. Distractions helped. There are lists of them on sites. (recover your life, NSHN, equilibrium) Using a social support network, letting my Mum know so she would watch me. Throwing away everything, replacing it with other activities when I was down. There are loads of things.
I can almost garentee you haven't tried every singe therapy there is. I've been told about hundreds of them, all different. To get better you want to get better as well.
