UEA or Sussex?

Hi, I've got offers for both Sussex (media production) and university of east anglia (film and tv production) and I can't decide where to go. I really love Brighton as a place and how vibrant and exciting it is while still have loads of green spaces. I don't know too much about Norwich as a city yet I can't lie, but I really loved the look of the course there.
If anyone is at these unis or doing one of these courses (or similar) please give me your honest review of your experience at the uni and the city.
If anyone is in the same situation and swaying more toward one uni than the other please let me know why. Thank you!!!

Hi there,

I completely understand the dilemma it’s hard to choose between two great unis, especially when you’re weighing up location vs course. It sounds like Brighton’s vibe really appeals to you, and I totally get why. It’s lively, creative, and has a lot of character. That said, don’t underestimate Norwich and UEA, especially if you’re really drawn to the Film and TV Production course UEA is very well regarded in media and film studies, and the teaching and facilities are top-notch.

I’m doing my PhD at UEA and I can say that Norwich is an amazing city to live in, especially for creatives. It’s got loads of green spaces, as you mentioned you like, and it’s also very walkable and friendly. The city is known for its independent arts scene, with indie cinemas like Cinema City, Norwich Arts Centre, and Norfolk & Norwich Festival, which brings a lot of life to the creative community here. It’s also one of the safest cities for students, which is a big plus.

As for the Film and TV Production course at UEA, it’s heavily focused on practical, hands-on learning, and you’ll get access to great facilities, including a TV studio, editing suites, and media labs. UEA is also home to the East Anglian Film Archive, which is a huge resource for students imagine having access to a treasure trove of film history right on campus!

One thing that really stands out at UEA is the student support. There’s a real sense of community here, and I’ve found that staff are genuinely passionate about helping students succeed something that makes a huge difference when you’re in a creative, practical field like film and media.

If you’ve got a gut feeling about the course at UEA, I’d say follow that instinct. The city might surprise you! 😊 But honestly, both options sound great you really can’t go wrong with either. If you’ve got any specific questions about UEA, feel free to ask!

Best,
Daniel
