Hi @user3472831

Congratulations on getting invited to interview!

I would recommend contacting Brighton University current Pharmacy student Nessa who may be able to offer some advice on the interview process for the Pharmacy course and also talk about the course in general.

I hope this is helpful, good luck with your interview!

Hi @conspicuous-toot

Yes, I can help with questions regarding the guaranteed interview scheme from Pharmacy MPharm to Medicine.

All of the students on the Pharmacy MPharm course who fulfil the eligibility criteria below are guaranteed an interview with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) if they want to pursue a degree in medicine.

There are two routes:

Entry requirements (after year 1)

GCSE grade B or equivalent in maths and English

If English is not your first language, an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with at least 7.0 in all sections

AAA at A-level, all obtained in one sitting (both chemistry and biology need to be passed at A-level with grade A; General Studies and Critical Thinking are not acceptable)

If you took the International Baccalaureate, 36 overall with grade 6 in Higher level chemistry and biology

Excellent term 1 class attendance record

A 70% average for term 1 modules

Entry requirements (after the final year)

GCSE grade B or equivalent in maths and English

BBB at A-level, all obtained in one sitting (both chemistry and biology need to be passed at A-level with grade B; General Studies and Critical Thinking are not acceptable)

If English is not your first language, an overall IELTS score of 7.5 with at least 7.0 in all sections

A 70% average for year 3 modules

You also need to:

take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) in your year of application

make a UCAS application to BSMS by 15 October in your year of application

show evidence of healthcare-related work experience in your UCAS personal statement and

have an excellent record of class attendance (80%) and assignment submission by deadline (if applying after final year).

The benefit of this is that you will have the opportunity to re-apply for Medicine, if you were not successful the first time post-interview by completing the first year of the Pharmacy MPharm course if you meet the above criteria (after year one). It also means you can apply for both the Medicine and Pharmacy MPharm at the same time, with the Pharmacy being you back-up option, as it can still lead to Medicine.

Additionally, if you didn't achieve the AAA at A-Level, but meet the BBB criteria you will have the opportunity after the final year of MPharm to apply for Medicine.

Meeting the above criteria will guarantee you an interview, which means the final decision will then be based on the strength of your interview.

You can find helpful tips on the Medicine interview here.

This guaranteed interview scheme is there to give applicants more opportunities to join the Medicine course that may not have got in the first time, or are looking to apply through a non traditional route (straight out of College with AAA at A-Level for example).

I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions ☺️
