Student finance (independent student)

I am 28, live with my boyfriend, unmarried and no children. I would be classed as an independent student. My boyfriend does earn more than £25,000 a year but would not be in a financial position to support me whatsoever due to his own money commitments. I currently work full time.

When I use the student finance calculator it says '- £1,900 (the amount you might not be eligible for, based on your answers)'

Has anybody ever successfully appealed their amount of maintenance loan due to not actually being able to be financially supported by their boyfriend?

As an independent student I obviously have financial commitments and the amount they are suggesting is just not enough. Thank you.

Hi Antonia147,

https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator/y/2024-2025/tuition-and-maintenance/full-time/9250.0/away-outside-london/38000.0/no/none-of-the-above

The amount I got when I checked for you was £8,327 Maintenance Loan.

Can you confirm what questions you answered at each step?

Thanks, Clare
