Is it fine to miss 3 weeks of school for work experience

I am applying to med or dental school this October.

So I have work experience one week from Tuesday to Thursday. Then the next week from Monday to Wednesday. And another week as well.

Also is doing work experience in August too late? When should I write personal statement?

hi melissa, gap year med applicant here. personally for me i think three weeks is a long time; are you able to possibly do these in the summer instead? y13 is quite a fast paced year, in three weeks you would miss out on a lot in school. have you spoken to your school about this? majority of schools would most likely not allow this 😕 a lot if not all sixth forms/colleges give a week off school towards the end of the year specifically for work experience. what is each work experience about? give some more deets please so i can try to advise you a bit better

apologies, forgot to reply to the other two questions lol. work experience in august is definitely not late, i did a week work experience shadowing a consultant neurosurgeon (in august). personally, i started writing my personal statement in june/july (just first couple of drafts) and properly wrote it in august, finalised last edits in september. this was because i didn't want to rush things last minute. but i know some people that were frantically editing PS day before the deadline and i would heavily advise against it. i'd say if you can, possibly keep a reflection book of everything you learnt/saw during your work experience, the different skills, how you have showed this particular skill in the past and how you can transfer that into medicine. i simply did this on a word doc to keep account of important things i did/saw during volunteering/work experience and it really helps when you write your personal statement. good luck and lmk if you need help with anything!
