Animation portfolio for Hertfordshire

Does anyone know when Hertfordshire emails their 2d animation applicants how to upload/send in their portfolio because I'm a little worried I missed something. There's nothing in my spam mail, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if they send in that email after ucas applications have closed officially? I've emailed admissions about it, but there has been no response yet.

You can always ring a university if you’re worried that you might have missed emails.

It’s a busy time of year for admissions so it may take a week or two for them to get to your application.

I would check the status on UCAS and see if there's any info on there, run keyword searches through your emails etc. It sounds like you've tried most of this already, though.
Second PQ's suggestion to ring the university if you're worried.
It might just take a while for them to get back to you, especially if you sent your application off close to the deadline.
Portfolio requests will never show on UCAS.

If a university has an applicant portal then quite often login details will end up flagged as spam/junk.
If you've used your school/college email address on UCAS instead of a personal one this can sometimes mean there's no way to access those emails. In that case update your email address on the UCAS Hub (https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/making-changes-your-application-after-you-apply#your-details ) and then let your universities know.

You should never use a school/college email address for a UCAS application.

It's been a while. I wasn't suggesting that the actual portfolio request would be on UCAS, I remember that much. By my recollection sometimes they had some information on what order/when different stages of the application process might happen, which might be helpful in this instance? Am I right in thinking that? Possibly all of this is by email, though. Would be useful to know so I can give the right info next time.

Unfortunately not - UCAS doesn't offer universities any way to send messages to applicants through the UCAS hub aside from using their (non-functional) interview invitation feature or through making a decision (offer/reject) on the application.

Wow, yeah, seems like there's room for improvement there. TY for the info 🙂

I've called them today, and the person has now emailed me a form to fill out. They said since I'm an international student, UCAS can be a bit finicky with applications even though I'm doing sixth form in the UK

Are you also applying for the 2d animation course? I haven't gotten any emails about portfolio submission so far, only confirmation I've applied on ucas and emails about unibuddy/applicant day. Did you get this email recently or in the past month or so?

It sounds like your UCAS application might still be sat with your school/college waiting to be submitted? What does your UCAS Hub status show?

My ucas application has already been sent off by my school. I've gotten two offers back (technically 3, but Staffordshire for some reason hasn't shown yet on there). I've submitted the form that they emailed to me when I called so hopefully I get some response soon

Ahhh gotcha

It might just be that whoever deals with international animation applications is a bit behind. Between Christmas, time off and people getting colds/flu it doesn’t take much for a delay to build up.

Hi there
I'm the admissions tutor for the Animation degrees at Hertfordshire, and we are (as usual) swamped with applicants at the moment so the admissions department are probably trying to process all of them and then will send out an email to those students who are predicted the entry requirements. Last year we had 1494 applicants for our programme, and 2D Animation is our most popular degree... so you may have to be a bit patient (sorry!)

There isn't a specific date that Herts emails applicants and tells them to send portfolios in - when an applicant applies; if it looks like they are predicted the grades we need and have a relevant art qualification (plus English and MAths GCSEs) the admissions team will send an email telling the applicant they have 4 weeks to submit a portfolio to a link in that email. Once we get the portfolio I then refer it to the correct team of lecturers to review and they then decide if they want to interview the applicant or not. For 2D Animation, this might sound obvious, but we really do want to see 2D Animation in your portfolio - and this needs to be full body animation, not 2 frame blink cycles or 4 frame hair flicks or animatics. If you want to see a much more in depth explanation of all the other art we want to see have a look at this video which covers our portfolio requirements https://vimeo.com/841286222 - please look at the time codes in the text box below the video - the video covers all four of our degrees and so you only need to watch the parts that are relevant to 2D Animation.

If you're an international applicant that can be a slower process because the university may be doing background checks / international qualification checks as well before asking for your portfolio. If you email me at [email protected] and send me your UCAS ID code and name I will ask someone in admissions and try to find out what stage you are at.

Thank you so much for replying! I will definitely be emailing soon. I found the vimeo video to be very helpful when putting together my portfolio. I understand that the admissions team is very busy, especially after the holidays, and I appreciate the work you do.

Hi I submitted for Hertfordshire animation as well as a few of my friends and they normally take longer for a portfolio request than others. Took me about a weekish to get a request and after that you have 4 weeks to submit your portfolio

Yes, it's the sheer quantity of applicants we get that causes some slow down - last year we had 1494 applicants so we have to check a huge quantity of portfolios and it can take us a little longer than the other universities to get back to applicants because of this.
