University - Biochemistry or Pharmacy ?

Is biochemistry still a good degree to do at university or should I expand to more things such as pharmacy as apparently biochem is becoming more difficult for jobs ?

Hi there,

Biochemistry remains a strong degree choice, offering diverse career paths in research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and academia. However, job competition is increasing, and salaries for biochemists are generally lower than those for pharmacists. Pharmacy degrees provide higher earning potential and a more defined career path in healthcare, though the job market can be crowded.
Robert Gordon University (RGU) offers excellent programs like Applied Biomedical Science and Biomedical Science, which blend biochemistry with practical healthcare applications and integrated placements, enhancing employability in clinical and diagnostic roles. These programs could be ideal alternatives to traditional biochemistry degrees.

Biochemistry is more lab-based work and pharmacy is more clinical and patient-facing, so it depends which type of work you'd prefer
