Hi, I’m a freshman at Keele (not medicine, but physics and maths), so I’ll try to answer some questions for you.
Student Life — join at least one society in your first semester (I saw mine 2-4 times a week, and it really helped me to adjust to university life), student union is mid (you can get the app, which gives you notifications about what’s on each night and sometimes, they have ‘celebrity guests’), KPA bar is probably the best place on campus, most students spent their free time in Newcastle Under Lyme, chapel and library are open 24/7, there’s 2 coffee shops, a Greggs, and a Co-Op, download Uber for Uber Eats if you don’t have it already — overall, it could be worse
Research/Teaching - Keele is NOT a research university, and professors are coming and going at the moment, so teacher-specific modules will change as well as focus areas for each field. The majority of professors are good at their jobs. What Keele lacks in research, it gains in teaching. Modules are constantly being reworked after feedback to ensure students are learning in ways that work for them, and that maximise their understanding and engagement on the subjects. The research is… fine. There are a lot of doctorate programs available, and many of my professors did their masters and doctorates at Keele, so it must have offered something interesting for them to stay and do some sort of research whilst teaching — again, overall, it could be worse
EDIT - apparently Keele IS considered a research university, but I’m a student, and you hear nothing about any research, and my professors don’t mention any — in fact, one of my profs TOLD me it wasn’t a research university anymore
