Oxford Offer for Mansfield

This morning I got my offer for Mansfield College Oxford, it wasn't my first choice college so I haven't visited, what is the accommodation there like? Is there anything to be weary of?

Walking up the staircases might make you weary.

Congratulations. You sound disappointed. Mansfield is a very fine college.

Hey, congratulations! I'm currently studying at Mansfield. We have several accom options for first years, unless it's changed you'll pick between either having an en suite room in e block or g block, or an older and larger room with shared bathroom. Both are super nice, it's up to your preference which one you chose. There isn't currently any price difference between these, and you'll chose your preference of room after results day.

It's all on site for the first year and I've found it super convenient. If you're still unsure, I'd recommend asking to have a look on your offer holder day if you get the opportunity! Lmk if you have any specific questions c:

Mansfield is gorgeous! Its location is really good - central but down a side street so a bit quieter. The college itself is quite small so the only thing to consider is that for your second year you might be offered accom that isn't onsite (but is still college owned) and there's always the option to find your own! It's a super friendly college with a huge proportion of state school students and with the best vegetarian food which is a fun bonus! Congrats on your offer - you should be so proud!!

The first year accommodation looks incredibly nice and is a good location. The second year accommodation is ~40 minute walk from the maths department. Without having to go to private accommodation, is there anything I can do about getting closer accommodation, would it require migration to another college?

You get to pick in second year- some people stay on site but also some people want to live out and have a shared house. So you’ll have options

You can't change colleges half way through a degree.

You could travel by bike, or take a bus.

Did you do any reading about how the University of Oxford is organised before you applied to it? It's a collegiate university. Each college is a self governing academic community and not just an accomodation block. You become a member of a college, a faculty, and the university.

I am in the same boat. I got an offer from Mansfield but it was not the college I applied to. Which subject are you doing?)

Hi, I'm a current first year maths at mansfield and the second year accommodation is only 30 mins away really, so not too bad? Plus you can always learn to ride a bike, it's a lot quickier (admittedly I still haven't done this tbf). If you do want closer accommodation, it's possible to stay on site in 2nd year depending on the room ballot, I know a good number of people staying on site next year, but either way the second year accommodation is still close enough that it's not too bad .

also congrats on the offer!!!! if you want some information about mansfield maths specifically, all the tutors are amazing, they're all really nice people and i've never had a bad tutorial with any of them. the college too is really nice, the main site is quite a nice location (quite central oxford, but the road it's on is always quiet), and it's a very beautiful place.
