You could do a 1-year Art and Design Foundation course at most local colleges (and some specialist Arts Unis) and this would give you a universally accepted Art qualification - examples :
Art & Design Foundation Diploma… | York College & University Centre
Art & Design Foundation Level 3 | East Sussex College
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion and Textiles) | Ravensbourne University London

Hello,
I am a student rep at UAL so I can help out with your question.

I am currently studying fashion journalism and content creation at London College of Fashion and before this, I hadn't studied fashion at A-level either. However, not studying fashion is not a limitation for you to apply as long as you can prove your dedication and interest for this course through your application. What I did was do some short courses alongside my A levels and build a portfolio of work in my free time that I could then discuss in my personal statement. Taking initiative to do work in your free time is a great way to show personal interest and dedication.

Even though your current subjects are not related or of interest to you, it is still important to mention the transferable skills you have learnt from them. For example, science carries out a lot of experiments which could have an effect on your creative process when finding efficient ways to sample costume designs. Every course has transferrable skills to try to identify them and mention it in your application.

UAL does offer costume design, as well as other design courses, so I would advise checking the website for their entry requirements and as long as you are able to meet them, definitely apply.

I wish you the best with your application.
