The Student Room Group

I literally cannot focus on a single thing for more than 20 minutes.

I have my GCSEs this year, and since I'm homeschooled, I teach myself/am taught by tutors or family members. Unfortunately, there's a high chance of me having ADHD, which affects my attention span, and I get distracted within a short time. Do you have any tips to help me out? I cannot fail my exams.

Set small goals and reward yourself little by little as you complete each task. make a planner of what you want to achieve that day and stick to it. If you finish a task early, get started on the next task so you can finish earlier in the day. I remember i once put in a 10 hour day for revision. It was painful but i felt so good after it as i knew id done all i wanted. now go and revise

I’m the exact same. try to get a time out card. What I’ve remembered forever and has helped me the most is that I realised, for both me and lots of other people the same, the minute you sit down you loose motivation to do anything. If you want to do something, or focus on something- stand up. Seems weird but it works. That’s why walking about and having a break helps. Flash cards may help you too because it’s fast paced learning, just like kahoot. I also find it helps me remember things if I keep rehearsing it to a made up audience in my room….. Anyway I hope this helps, good luck

Start doing meditation, and mindfullness practices, there's a lot of youtube videos or I used an app called Springpod which used to help me focus. I don't have ADHD but this does help me focus a lot better. let me konw if this helps.
If you find that you get bored/tired of studying one subject for a bit I suggest you try and vary which subjects you revise in a day. I had a bit of a time crunch to revise for my GCSEs and I found that studying a different subject every day or doing smaller revision sessions of 2-3 subjects per day helped my brain to refresh and pick on something new. Obviously, don't overwhelm yourself, so take it small first. If you like watching revision videos, I also find that watching it on 1.5-2x speed helps with my attention span
