Should I lie to the University

So I am currently a first year at a decent uni. I realised a few months ago that my grades were good enough to apply to really good unis, so i did. FYI its mostly because the field I want to get into cares alot about 'names'. So I applied and a few have replied saying what I have been doing since leaving sixth form. They said to leave any uni course Im doing and give them evidence or give them evidence of what im doing in my 'gap year'. I plan on dropping out as soon as I get an offer, but dont want to put myself in a risky spot by doing it before I get any offers.
Can i just say that I am doing X,Y and Z in this 'gap year' rather than Uni? I mean, I have no grades or anything in the uni so far. and Ive been told that they cant check.
Can they? What should i do??

You must include your current Uni study - to not do so would be fraud, something UCAS and all Unis take very seriously. And you cannot just lie about this - Unis have ways of spotting that you are a prior applicant and will have access to your previous application details via UCAS. Any Unis you are applying to will probably want a Uni reference as they have to be certain that you have not failed that course or been asked to leave. Always be honest - lying can get you into a whole load of trouble and is simply not worth it.
