Diagnostic radiography work experience

Hi I am currently a year 12 student working towards studying diagnostic radiography in university. I have not been able to find ways to get experience that links back to this e.g online courses or real life work experience. I was wondering if there were any specific websites i could use to help me find what I am looking for.

Unis want to see two things:

shadowing experience to show that you understand the role. Contact your local NHS trust and ask if they can arrrange a day of shadowing experience for you in the radiography department. Hospitals are more able to accommodate this than requests for longer periods of work experience. If no luck, try other trusts and ask friends, family, neighbours, etc. if they have any contacts that can get you in.

public-facing work/volunteering experience to show that you can communicate with the general public and work in a team. This doesn't need to be in a healthcare setting so can include cafe/restaurat jobs, retail, charity shop volunteer, special needs school, care homes, etc. If you can't find a paid job, there will be opportunities to volunteer.

In addition to shadowing experience, search for 'A day in the life of a DR' videos on youtube and watch the ones produced by NHS Trusts.

There are lots of 2025 DR applicants chatting in the following thread:

The thread for 2026 entry will start in September - the DR applicant's thread is usually one of the most active on the healthcare forum as it is a popular course.
