Preparing for uni

I'm on a gap year atm and will be going to uni in september. obviously I had a bit of a head start, but now I need to start thinking about student finance and accom. when do applications for SF open? Would I get an email from the university or do I just have to look out for it? I'm going Southampton btw.

You can apply for Student Finance from March, if I remember correctly. Don't rely on the university to remind you - they might not. If you visit https://studentfinance.campaign.gov.uk/ you'll see a big green "Sign up" button under the "Get ready for 2025 to 2026!" You can use that to receive a notification when you can apply.

Again, don't rely upon the university to tell you when they'll begin accepting applications for accommodation. They'll likely notify you - but may not. Instead, periodically take a look at https://www.southampton.ac.uk/student-life/accommodation. It's geared up for 2024/25 applications right now, but should switch over to 2025/26 applications in April. (This page specifically says, "Accommodation applications for 2025/26 are expected to open in April 2025.")

Hi @amel.z0,

From my expirience, you will likely be emailed reguarding accommodation as part of our initial correspondence leading up to you your arrival in September. This will also give you information about the deadline for appying to accommodation which will be in June or July. However, you are unlikely to recieve an email from us about student finace as that is handled seperately.
