How are u meant to ask for support

I really think I need to get in touch with the wellbeing support ppl at my uni but ive no clue how to do it. Ik they have an email I just don't have any idea what to ask for/how to phrase it? I don't have like a specific issue I'm struggling with or like a specific diagnosis like anxiety or depression that I can ask for help with or anything like that.

It's also kind of scary bc I'm like actually incapable of talking about this kind of stuff without crying and ik I'll actually be mortified if that happens especially when there's not even anything serious going on 😭 plz I need to know how other ppl do this lmao

You typically email or call them to book an appointment to pop into the clinic to see a professional. They tend to be accommodating.

You tell them that you're not sure what is wrong, but you feel like you need their help.
Even if there is nothing wrong with you, they're happy to have a session to check to see if there's anything there (for one to 2 sessions).

It can be scary to be open about what is going on. Plenty of counselling patients go through it, and it's a new and scary experience if you haven't done something like it before. I wouldn't worry about it; it's not like they will chew your head off - they are trained professionals who are there to listen. They also see people like this all the time.

Its ok to cry, even when there isn’t anything serious going on. University can be stressful, there are a lot of firsts and new experiences. They are used to people getting upset, just send them an email asking if they could talk you through what they offer for support, if they suggest you go and meet with them to discuss it do it!
The services offered by the university are paid for by students, use them even if things aren’t serious.

Everyone needs support sometimes

Hey there 😁

Every struggle is valid, and you absolutely deserve support, even if you feel hesitant or ashamed. Wellbeing Teams are made up of professionals who will never judge or undermine you. They provide a safe space where you can express yourself freely and seek help. There’s no room for embarrassment. Instead, you’ll be met with understanding, empathy, and support.

I speak from experience, as I reached out to them myself, not because of a diagnosis or severe issues, but simply because I needed someone to talk to about my worries and stresses.

The first step is to carefully explore your university’s website for contact details for the Wellbeing Team. You can send them a simple email expressing your desire to meet and talk with someone. If there’s a specific procedure, they’ll guide you through it. If you can't find the contact details, reaching out to your personal tutor is a great option. They'll be able to provide the information you need.

I hope everything will be alright 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,
