English literature or medicine

Hey yall do im in a really big dilema!
Im in year 11 about to do my gcse's but i'm confused on what to pick for A-levels/university.

I really love English literature, the learning, quotes, analysis and over all aesthetic, right now im getting a strong 6 but i think i can get ATLEAST a 7. I want to pursue it for A-level despite people saying it's horrible and nothing like GCSE. For uni i would love to study it at Oxford University but i feel like the rest of my grades bring my chance of acceptance down.

I also love biology and chemistry but I'm at biology i got a 6 in mocks but i want a 7, for chem in my last last mock i got a U but for my recent i got a 4, i want to get a 7 for it but idk if i can. I want to study them both at A-level as i do want to do medicine but a level chem is apparently really hard and biology is content heavy so ugh. If i study medicine i want to study at Imperial College London

When im older i want to study english literature, journalism , or medicine but they are so different and my grades arent strong enough and im just really like stressed about it as i want to get my grades up and idk what to pursue, i love the aspect of medicine because its well paid, respected and is really interesting but i dont have the grades ( I'm aiming for a 5 in maths foundation) so yea, i love eng lit but it pays low and yea my grades arent high as i want them to be so yea thanks

My first reply to my friends who didn’t know what they wanted to pursue in further education was what job do you see yourself working in for 40 years without feeling tired or wanting to change.
This is a vital part of picking a university course you want to study as durability and enjoyment matters the most.

I’m from Scotland however I think A-levels and Advanced highers are similar in content. They are very difficult, very. Biology is very content based, niche exact wording is required, chemistry is high in maths with formulas etc. I do English as an advanced higher and although it’s difficult, you do enjoy it overall. I find it like a break from all the subjects that require an exact format etc.

But most important of all, I would say follow what your heart says, think about your choices in-depth.

I say you should do Chemistry, Biology and English for A-Levels, however you still have time to think about it

Don’t stress, everything will always work out right with time. Maybe even do some research and internships to see if you enjoy something or not.

For grades, work hard make sure you push yourself!!! It’s difficult but if your motivated you can do it.

I do higher geography and have previously done chemistry and biology, there are similar parts in Scottish highers but I wouldn’t say they are too similar.

But it could be way different in England.

Do what you think you can manage whilst balancing your lifestyle.

I was in a similar position to you in year 11, stuck between medicine and english. I currently study English at a top uni, yet everyday I wish I had chosen med; in my experience, the whole "aesthetic" of studying english eventually fades away and it becomes rather monotonous. You are lucky in that you still have lots of time to make a choice, and there is still lots of time to improve your grades, but in my experience, don't chose a degree based on the "aesthetic". i recommend doing what some commenter said, by choosing a levels bio chem maths and english. That way you still have many options.
