Durham Colleges

Hi everyone,
Trying to book a durham offer holder day, and it’s telling me to pick 3 colleges to visit on the day but not sure which ones to pick.
For context, I’m:
applying for maths
State school
very sporty, mainly football and tennis.

That’s about it really,
Thank you

if u look on the durham website they have a list of all the colleges and their characteristics. essentially u need to decide whether u want hill (like near the uni) or bailey (near the town), catered or self catered, and whether the college is gowned (like wearing the black robes to formal dinners and stuff). i know that collingwood is the notorious sporty college and that’s catered? congrats on ur offer! i’ve got one for law, ive booked john snow, josephine butler and south college to have a look round. if ur not sure maybe try and book a mixture or hill/bailey catered/self etc hope this helps!!

Hey, I also got an offer for maths I’ve been looking at Hill colleges as they’re closer to the maths building but don’t sure which ones, which colleges have you chosen (if you’ve decided yet)?

Hi!

Well done on getting an offer!
For the sports teams that each college offers, I would check each college's JCR websites. They'll likely show what sports each college has. Also, it is important to note that if you want to play sports at a professional level, you can join TeamDU, which is at the university level (and therefore your college doesn't matter).

I would also recommend going through the university's College Comparison page to see things like en-suites, catered etc. It might be of use to you!

Hope this helps!

Hey I’m a bit late, but as a current Durham student if you change your mind between now and the offer holder day you can switch which colleges you look at, the forms online are mostly to give an idea of expected numbers.

Judging purely by the info you’ve given, I would really recommend having a look at Collingwood college - it’s on the hill therefore close to the maths site and library, and has a reputation for being a large sporty college with the best college gym at Durham. Ultimately however there are other things that you should look into when choosing a college, like whether you’d prefer self catered or catered etc.

Honestly wherever you end up you’ll probably end up really liking it, so don’t stress too much
