Open University Grades

I'm a first year, studying with the OU. I haven't done a degree before and so far have completed 4 TMAs total (3 TMAs for one course, 1 in another). Over the 3 I have done on one course I have averaged around 64 (my lowest being 62 and highest 69). Does anyone know if this is concerning or not? I'm disappointed but I've always been a high achiever. When I'm writing the TMAs I feel like I've done okay but my grades suggest otherwise. I was wondering if anyone knew what the average was for first years on a psychology course and whether or not I should be worried.

Thank you
Well the good news is that your first year's grades don't count towards your final degree classification. You just need to pass your first year, which it sounds like you're well on track for doing.

In terms of whether or not it's "concerning", well it sort of depends on perspective I suppose. It's a new degree, and you're just finding your feet, so until you sort of find your feet with it I'd say it's probably not all that unusual to be getting 60s. However obviously you want to be working upwards from there and improving, building on your previous TMAs and taking your tutor's comments into consideration for future TMAs.

If you carry on like this and get all 60s in Levels 2 and 3, then you're looking at graduating with a 2:2. So it depends how happy you'll be with that. For some people that's absolutely fine, they're happy with that. For others they might prefer to get a 2:1 or a 1st. Only you can answer that question.

If you feel as though you're struggling with anything, reach out to your tutor via email (or even an arranged phone call) and ask questions about how they think you might be able to improve.
On the OU subject site you can check your predicted scores. Go to "Assignment Scores" then click on "Predict your Grades" and you can fill in your scores to see what you might get.
