There’s 1 making effective decisions question and 1 communicating influencing question. There’s 2 practice questions which I skipped as it’s not marked. Both are behaviour questions.
Also does anyone know if these roles actually exist or will everyone end up on the reserve list? I know someone who ended up on the reserve list last month for this same role so I don’t understand how they’re hiring again?

the roles definitely exist, i started in the same job role in november. there is cohorts beginning every 3 months currently, i think theyre trying to get as many on board as possible ready for when new cohorts open. i imagine (if successful) the earliest youll start will be june

This is my second application for a compliance caseworker position as I failed at the interview stage on my first application. Think I'll pass this time as I scored really well for the TSP interview.

What score did you get for TSP? The benchmark to pass might be different no?

damn that's good! so you basically got TSP in the bag if you pass the AC 😃 What are your interview secrets? because I got 24/40 even though I used the STAR technique 😮*💨

I failed my first interview and feedback in was that I focused too heavily on setting the scene so I had made a bullet point list of examples that would fit within a 2 minute window and focused heavily on 'action' and 'result'. With the result be like really specific about what you achieved.

I wish it was in the bag! The results don't matter once you get to the AC as the assessors aren't privy to the scores.

When a role like this was previously advertised at the back end of last year, they asked 4 bases strength question which look like they’ve got rid of (I presume this was because in the end they didn’t even score them due to how popular the role was). If you were successful at interview, you then had to take a further test/exercise (can’t remember the name of it). Is this happening this time around or is it just the interview? Thanks ☺️

Is that for the current advertised role? So if you get to the interview stage, you have to do the in tray exercise then too?

When did you do your interview? I'm hearing from people who have done the interview recently they had strength questions?

Does anyone know if we can choose like doing 37 hours over 3 days in this role?

If you don’t mind me asking. How are you finding the job? I start in March and so nervous to start, it’s my first 9-5 job. How does your day to day look like? I heard the work life balance is really good as well. Is it heavily maths based job or more casework admin type job?

so its also my first 9-5 and yes the work life balance is really good, you can choose what hours you work, as long as you attend all learning sessions/teams meetings. so i tend to start at 8:30 when im in the office and finish at 15:55 to avoid getting the rush hour trains home. then i do an additional 45 minutes or so on my two days that i work from home. im in the birmingham office and there is a rota that states what day our team needs to be in the office as theres 6 teams & not enough desks for everyone on the training floor if we all go in on the same days but this may be different for your office.

in all honesty, im yet to actually do any proper work/cases and i wont be for another 6 weeks.

i dont personally think the training process is/was well explained before i actually started, and actually there is a whole heap on coursework you need to do in the first 9 months before you can “stream” to your department. and then it then continues for a further 9 months after you “stream” i can try go into more detail on that if you want but honestly im not 100% sure of the expectations yet as ive not started the course work

the first two weeks was predominantly teams calls with the entire cohort which just explained the whole training process to you with a little bit of independent learning to complete. in the first week youll be sent a full timetable of all the elearning youre expected to complete across the initial 8 weeks of the training which is referred to as “stage one”

during stage one we also carried out a case study across the course of 9 days which was just a fictional case that was broken down into the key stages.

after the first two weeks tbh it is essentially just elearning with a few team meetings thrown in there.

i know you mentioned maths, as far as i am currently aware, there is spreadsheets etc that will do all the maths for you.

one tip i can give you is dont rush your elearning, they completely overestimate how long each session takes you and if i wanted to i could complete an entire weeks worth in about 6 hours. so dont rush it because you’ll find yourself with nothing to do for the remainder of the week.

at week 4 you’ll be assigned your “tax head” and then from week 8 you’ll start doing elearning which is more specific to your tax head. eg im in VAT so as of next week i will begin VAT specialised training.

this is so long im sorry but i hope its of use and feel free to dm me if you have any more questions

I did it yesterday. The 2 questions were something like ‘tell us about a time you…’ ‘describe a situation where you…’

I used to work for Dwp. Not sure if flexi time is the same at Hmrc but how it worked is you input how many hours u do each day and u can basically do overtime and use the hours that you built up to leave early or start late, or if you have enough hours available then you can ask your manager if u can take a day off using your flexi balance.
