Advice on Applying to Imperial with IELTS 6.0 and Academic Achievements

I hope this message finds you well. I’m seeking your advice regarding my application to Imperial College for a master’s program in Civil Engineering, specifically focused on seismic or structural engineering.

I graduated last year with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, achieving a GPA of 3.8. My academic background includes four prize-winning diplomas from national Olympiads in Engineering Mechanics, two scientific publications in my field, and first place in a national scientific conference. I also have a year of professional experience working at a scientific institute specializing in construction standards and research.

However, my IELTS score is 6.0, which I achieved last year with minimal preparation. I understand this score may fall short of the standard requirements, but I’ve read that Imperial offers additional English courses before the start of the semester.

Given my academic achievements and interest in advancing my expertise at Imperial, do you think it makes sense to apply now and hope that my academic profile compensates for my current IELTS score, especially with the possibility of attending the English courses? Or would it be better to retake the IELTS and aim for a higher score, potentially applying closer to April?

I’d also appreciate any insight into the likelihood of receiving scholarships for students with my profile.

Thank you in advance for your advice and guidance!

Best regards,
Dilnaz

Just retake it. Usually it’s one of the conditions that you need to meet. You can take as many as you want until you meet the requirements. It’s just a cost.
