Year 9 Drama show

Hi I have just been cast as Wendy in Peter Pan in my year 9 show and I am really happy about it. However when sir told us costumes I have to wear silk pyjamas and bare feet! Iam horrified that I have to do the whole show in my bare feet when nobody else does, but when I asked him about it he is making me do all the rehearsals in barefoot too! last night he made me take my shoes and tights off as he said I will be doing the show in bare feet I also need to rehearse bare feet too. I think its really unfair and wondered if anyone else has had this,

I'm not sure what his personality is like, but that's quite creepy and weird. In the posters of the films I just googled, all Wendy wore slippers. Even though in some, it looks like she's barefoot, if you look closely she's wearing a black slipper. Also, I'm not sure why he made you take your tights off if you just needed to be barefoot

So he’s an alright teacher I’ve always got on with him and think he likes me as he gives me a lot of help. I can understand why I have to do the show in bare feet if that’s what it says on the costume list, I believe the lost boys are doing too but they aren’t doing rehearsals yet. But I don’t understand why he’s making me do all the rehearsals in bare feet! I was late to rehearsal tonight and as I walked in he said “shoes and socks off” I called him out saying why and he said because I’m doing the show barefoot so need to rehearse barefoot 😭 but everyone else has their school shoes on I find it really unfair really embarrassing! I sat with my friends on the floor in the hall and even they said don’t take them off. I sat with my skirt over my feet, but when we had to stand up he said to take my shoes and socks off which I did in the end as I didn’t want to get in trouble. It’s so embarrassing though because everyone just looks at me 😭🫣

Yeahh I can see why that might be a problem. How about you ask him if instead of barefoot, you can use a thin sock that matches the colour of your skin, maybe he'll let you do that since on stage it would practically look like you're barefoot, but you don't get as embarrased

thank you so much for your help and support. My mum got me some skin coloured socks this weekend and wrote a note saying I really don't want to do it barefoot and suggested the socks. We had the other drama teacher tonight as she's doing Mondays rehearsals so went in and changed the socks to the skin coloured ones. All was well for the first 20 minutes until she asked what part I was doing and when I said Wendy she said socks off 😢 I gave her the note from my mum but she said because it's a dance heavy part I need to be barefoot throughout. I said about Wendy wears black slippers in the film etc but she said I had to be bare feet or not do the part. I was so upset again as thought I would be ok in the socks 😢 She did say I'm not the only one as tiger lily and the lost boys will also be in bare feet when they start rehearsals. sorry I made such as fuss just think it's unfair. she got my feet in the cast photo with Michael and John too I'm fuming! 🤣

I totally agree with you. I will also feel uncomfortable if someone's forcing me to go barefoot. And also, if you're dancing, wouldn't going barefoot makes you more prone to injuries? Dancers would usually wear dance slippers or some sort of shoes. You look really cute in that photo btw😆

aww thank you so much 🥰 we do dance as a subject alongside music, half-term of music and then half-term of dance etc, and yes we do actually do dance in bare feet, we keep our uniform on but have to take shoes and socks off, I have dance Thursday so now I do dance 1pm-3pm then drama rehearsal til 4.30pm and I will now have to be barefoot throughout that time 😭 my friend who is playing Michael said to me he's glad I have to do it barefoot, I was like why!!!! He said because I have cute feet 🤣

I can't decide whether 'Michael' is flirting, making you feel better by being funny, or just straight up creepy😂 Ohh I just remembered in the cartoon films, (cause I'm not sure about the new peter pan film) the lost boys wore animal onesies, so I'm not completely sure why your play is doing them barefoot. I don't fully know why you have to do your play barefoot, but if your teacher is afrain you're going to slip on stage because the sock is slippery on stage, I'm pretty sure you can get sock grippers online, or DIY them (though I'm not sure how comfortable will the socks be if you DIY them). Or if they're decent teacher (cause some teachers full blown wants everything to go their way) you can ask them why you have to do them barefoot since to me the reasoning of dance is not good enough, (you can do dance with shoes/slippers on) and try to come to a compromise with your teacher

I think he's being serious tbh as he said the other day not to take them off! he was the one trying to defend me 🥰 no can't wear grip socks already asked 😢 he is fairly cute tbh 🤣🤭

Just so that there is no miscommunications, you meant 'Michael' is the one being serious right? And again, what is the importance of barefoot besides dancing in your play to the point where your teacher said you can't play the part if you're wearing socks? (and yes, I will not stop until you get your justice!!! Unless if tthe threatening gets actually real bad ofc, cause I would still want you to play Wendy)😁

So Michael is called Kaiden, he's one of my best friends and told me not to take them off the other day, as did Emma. We sort of keep ourselves to ourselves in a corner of the room whilst all the popular kids suck up to the teacher haha. Yesterday I was wearing the skin coloured socks and he said "ye good idea!" and we had the other teacher so we both thought I'd be ok, until she told me to take them off! I had tears pricking my eyes as of course I don't want to be barefoot. That's when Kaiden said he was glad I had to take them off because I have cute feet anyway 😬 didn't quite know how to take it at the time but I think it's kinda cute now. Again no issue being barefoot if it was everyone, but it's the point I'm the only one out of 30 other people who is barefoot.

That other teacher suckss😕 idk if it's a typo or not, but did you mean to write the 30 other people are barefoot? Cuase if it's a typo than that's really unfair how you have to be barefoot and the others don't, even though (I'm assuming) everyone else is also dancing

I don't think theres any getting away with it now. It was the point of when we got the cast list and it said blue nightie and bare feet and I said "Do I really have to do it bare feet?!" and he more or less huffed a bit and said, "oh ye you do", I was like "nooooooo!!!!" but then he said "and the rehearsals so you might as well start now." I said "I really don't want to, please don't make me" and he said "go and take your shoes and tights off."
That's when I first started this chat because I was so upset about it. If I hadn't asked I bet no one would have said anything til the show I think it's because I made the first point of not wanting to be barefoot I was made to do it! If I hadn't said anything I'd be doing it in my shoes like everyone else. I spoke to the girl doing tiger lily and she was a bit like "I'm not doing that." so we will have to see when she starts rehearsing if he makes her take her socks off too.

I know this is very rebelious, but during your actual play, how about you use your skin coloured socks, and make sure no one sees you changing to your socks..... I would recomend you to use your regular sock on top of your skin coloured sock, and when he tells you to take your sock off, take off your regular sock. Idk about your character (if you're daring or a goody two shoes) but that is very much last resorts if you still want to fight for your barefeet💪. And if the girl doesn't need to take her socks off for rehearsals, your teacher is definately biased from your 'whining'😑

No getting away with it tonight as we were in the dance studio and were already barefoot. Me and tiger lily were so she did do it barefoot too. The teacher came in before the end of the lesson and said “if you’re in the show stay here” so we didn’t get chance to get our shoes and socks from the changing room 😭 he did say thank you though for following the rules after my rebellious few days 🤣
