Adult nursing is a rewarding career where you have a real chance to make a difference to people's lives. When studying nursing at university, you can expect to learn new skills and procedures that help patients.

You will learn how to observe patients and assess their needs. You will learn how to plan and deliver the most appropriate care for them and evaluate the results. You will be able to build trust with patients and their families. The aim for adult nurses is to improve patients' quality of life, whatever the situation might be. You will need to take many factors into account and juggle priorities to get the best possible results for all patients.

Being an adult nurse means working with adults from all ages from young adults to end of life care. They may suffer from one or more long or short-term physical health conditions. This could include heart disease, injuries from an accident, pneumonia, arthritis, diabetes or cancer.

Adult nurses can work in a variety of settings including hospital wards, outpatient units, patients homes and clinics.

However, there is a lot more to adult nursing...

The possibilities are endless when you are qualified adult nurse and there are many opportunities for development. Once qualified, you can specialise in certain fields such as operating theatres, care for the elderly or intensive care. You may also want to work in public health, or move into management, teaching or clinical research.
