What’s the surrounding area to the uni like, are there good pubs and bars and is there much on in Guildford?

It's great to see that you're considering Surrey.
In terms of the surrounding areas of the university, there is a shopping centre called The Friary, that is a 20 minute walk away from the main campus (or 45 minutes away from Manor Park). In this area and it's surroundings, you can find a diverse range of restaurants, shops and entertainment. For example, there's the G live; the labyrinth; a Wetherspoons; a cinema, along with other restaurants and pubs.
The university also has it's own nightclub that's exclusively open to university students known as Rubix hosting a wide range of events, and you can find more information on this and our student union here https://surreyunion.org/Rubix/ and here https://surreyunion.org/.
