In order to apply to study in Italy whether its dentistry or medicine if you are a non eu student (which UK students are classed as non eu unless you're a dual citizen from the EU or you have some sort of citizenship in the EU) then you have to do something called the pre-enrollment. The pre enrollment typically opens around April or May time depending on your university choice. Pre enrollment does not apply to EU citizens. You must be careful as there are deadlines. You apply through universitaly and only have one choice of university. The pre-enrollment is to receive acceptance of your pre-enrollment from the university so that you can use this to apply for a visa. The visa application happens after the IMAT. The IMAT this year is taking place on the 17th of September, so registration will probably open in July or August. Make sure you apply quickly, as spaces fill up quickly. For the qualifications, you need to have completed 12 years of education, So if youre from the UK then you need at least 3 A levels with a pass grade which is E's. Every country is different they usually need a school leaving certificate. You also need to obtain DoV or CIMEA for your A level certificates (again depends on your uni of choice most want DoV and some accept CIMEA), this is to prove that your A levels are equivalent to an Italian high school diploma. Do this in April as it takes a couple of months to get this and you'll need these certificates not for pre-enrollment but for enrollment and getting the visa. When you do the IMAT in september and pass the IMAT you enrol and get visa.
