Oxford Open Offers 2025

i got an open offer for biochemistry underwritten by queens, just thought i would make this to gather everyone with open offers. I still don’t really understand how they decide who gets open offers, i’ve looked a lot online and it’s a bit ambiguous tbh. also what do we do about offer holder days, we can still go to our underwriting college for them right?

An open offer is an accolade. It signals that you were a candidate so strong that Oxford was determined to offer you a place regardless of colleges filling their places. Congrats.

You can attend the offer holders' day at the underwriting college.

My son and a couple of his friends at school received open offers. They all went to the underwriting college’s offer holder days though (at the time) they each felt they couldn’t enjoy it as much as the other candidates.

As it was they all ended up in their underwriting colleges. Speaking to their parents it seems we were the ones trawling through TSR and FOI requests to find out where they might end up. The lads just got on with their last year at school and their A Levels.

The most important thing is you’re in. You just get an extra surprise come Results Day. Apologies for making the assumption you’re waiting on a Results Day if you’re not.

Hi, how does accommodation allocation work for open offers? Are we at a disadvantage when it comes to allocating rooms?

No. Rooms are allocated after results day. You will be at no disadvantage in any way.

What do you mean by ‘underwritten’? My offer says an open offer but I will be guaranteed a place by Worcester if no spaces come available at another college. Is this the same thing as being ‘underwritten’? What are my chances of still getting Worcester?

That’s exactly what underwritten means.

Varies by subject. If it’s a subject where lots of colleges use the open offer system there’s a high chance you will end up at Worcester in your case.
