Should I even bother applying to Edinburgh and St Andrews?

Hi, I am currently a year 13 student with BBC predicted, however all my teachers said they will bring me up a grade to AAB (Computer Science, Maths, Physics respectively).

I did decently in my GCSEs :
L2D, 9, 8-7, 7, 6, 6, 5.

I want to apply to the BSc Computer Science course at these unis:
Edinburgh
St Andrews
Aberdeen
Winchester
(Not sure on an insurace yet)

My problem is that I dont know if i should bother applying to Edinburgh or St Andrews. The contextual indicators both say I would be eligible for a minimum offer (I live in a POLAR4 Q1 area) but I dont actually know how accurate that is and I'm afraid I'll get rejected.
Hi there!

It sounds like you have a good academic profile and if you're predicted AAB then that will open up a lot of doors for you in terms of unis.

The general advice is to aim for one aspirational uni with requirements at 1-2 max grades above your predicted, 2-3 realistic options with entry requirements that equal your predicteds, and one insurance with 1 grade or so lower than you're predicted, just in case things don't go your way on results day.

Based on your choices, because Edinburgh's A*A*A* is quite a way from AAB I would be cautious about applying this one - (perhaps ask your careers advisor about it?), but as St Andrews ask for AAA this sounds like a lovely aspirational choice for you.

Winchester and Aberdeen both sound like good realistic choices (possibly one of them your insurance if you end up being predicted AAB). It sounds like you've got a sensible range of unis and I would say if your predicted grades are AAB then you could afford to look into one more with AAB required to match this.

Its also about making sure that your choice is based primarily on the course content (and if it interests/inspires you) and the general vibe and feel of the campus.

I hope this helps, best of luck!
